Mark Cuban is a very stubborn man.
The outspoken owner of the Dallas Mavericks still refuses to classify Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook as a superstar despite his historic output thus far in 2016.
“He’s putting up superstar numbers. That’s for damn sure,” Cuban said of Westbrook on Friday, via Tim MacMahon of ESPN. “I’m not taking anything away from what he’s been able to accomplish, but I’m not going to change my definition. He’s putting up superstar numbers. You can’t deny that.
“That’s no disrespect to Russell. He’s been a beast. Few have done what he’s done, but I’ll stick by my definition. I’m not saying that he’s not going to prove me wrong and that he [won’t be] a superstar by the end of the year. That’s fine, but I’ll stick by my definition.”
In Cuban’s mind, a superstar can lead any team in the NBA to fifty wins, as he said last April when making his original comments. In Cuban’s mind, Westbrook hasn’t done that yet. It’s a rather strange hill to die on considering Westbrook is on pace to average a triple-double, but Cuban will be Cuban.
