The crowd at the Staples Center for Friday night’s game between the Lakers and Clippers was overwhelmingly purple and gold, and Montrezl Harrell didn’t seem to mind it one bit.
Following the Clippers’ 118-107 win over the Lakers, Harrell was asked how he felt about an overwhelming amount of boos raining down after a game that was essentially a home contest for both teams. He said he cherishes the opportunity to remind LA fans that the Lakers aren’t the only show in town.
Montrezl Harrell loved the boos from Lakers fans: ‘They already don’t recognize us as a so-called LA team… there’s two teams in LA… Y’all try to overlook us. Just cause everybody in that purple + gold and the history of it. Yeah I respect that. But that don’t mean s— to me’ pic.twitter.com/xfkLsZ7TWO

The Lakers were expected to be one of the top teams in the Western Conference after they added LeBron James, but the Clippers have actually been the better team this season. LA’s “other team” is 21-14 and currently the No. 4 seed in the West. While it would still be unwise to bet against the Lakers as LeBron gets healthy and they get more accustomed to playing with one another, the Clippers certainly look like a playoff team as well.
If you remember, Harrell went out of his way to confront a fan during a game earlier this month. He is clearly embracing the hate the Clippers have received at times, and that attitude could be beneficial for the team.
