The NBA has handed down discipline related to the fight that broke out between the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday, and a total of five players have been suspended.
Five players and two coaches were ejected after a brawl erupted during the second quarter of Sunday’s game at Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn. The incident occurred after Timberwolves players Donte DiVincenzo and Naz Reid objected to a foul committed by Pistons rookie Ron Holland, though players were heard jawing at one another before that.
The scrum even spilled over into the stands, and members of both coaching staffs got into a shoving match. You can see the video here.
Reid and DiVincenzo were both ejected for Minnesota, as was assistant coach Pablo Prigioni. Pistons coach JB Bickerstaff was ejected, along with Isaiah Stewart, Holland and Marcus Sasser.
The NBA announced on Tuesday that Stewart, who had received a technical foul prior to the brawl for shoving Minnesota’s Rudy Gobert, has been suspended two games. DiVincenzo, Holland, Reid and Sasser have all been suspended one game.

One video that emerged showed that Reid and Gobert tried to de-escalate the situation, while Stewart remained livid. The NBA said Stewart’s “repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts” is the reason he was suspended two games while all of the other players received one-game bans.
Stewart was suspended for one game earlier this year and fined over a flagrant-2 foul and a gun gesture he made toward an opposing bench.
The Timberwolves beat the Pistons 123-104. Both teams are in the thick of the playoff race in their respective conferences.
