Thabo Sefolosha reportedly opts out of NBA restart

The Houston Rockets will be without Thabo Sefolosha for the restarted NBA season.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Sefolosha has opted out of the restart. No reason has been given for the decision.

Sefolosha becomes the first member of the Rockets to opt out. He was a reserve player for the team this season, averaging 2.2 points and 2.3 rebounds in 10.6 minutes per game in 41 appearances. He had seen an expanded role in February due to injuries and depth issues in Houston, but had not played in seven of the last nine games before the NBA’s shutdown.

The positive news for Houston is Sefolosha’s decision opens up a free roster spot. That could allow them to sign a player they’d been looking at to help them in the playoffs.
