Ty Lawson suspended three games for July DUI arrest

Ty Lawson’s forgettable tenure with the Houston Rockets thus far has just gotten a little bit more so.

The 28-year-old point guard has been suspended three games for driving under the influence of alcohol, the NBA announced in an official press release on Thursday.

The suspension stems from a July arrest, his second such offense in the span of just half a year. Lawson served a two-game suspension for that first DUI arrest late last month.

Both bans were expected, and the Rockets assumed the risk when they acquired him from the Nuggets over the summer, thinking that Lawson would be the perfect complementary creator/backcourt mate next to James Harden. Instead, Lawson has totally cratered as a Rocket, showing a complete inability to play off-the-ball and even losing his starting job to Patrick Beverley.

While he has looked better in a bench role as of late, Lawson has racked up multiple DNP-CDs on the year and holds averages of just 6.4 points per game, 1.9 rebounds per game, and 4.3 assists per game. The former North Carolina guard’s struggles have definitely exacerbated the turmoil for the 17-19 Rockets this season.

Hopefully, this latest suspension is the final nudge Lawson needs to get his act together once and for all.
