Oscar De La Hoya ‘very disappointed’ by Dana White’s attack

Oscar De La Hoya is “very disappointed” by the personal attack he received from Dana White last week.

De La Hoya and White have been at odds for several months over conflicting business interests. De La Hoya is a boxing promoter and was working to organize a fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin — a blockbuster match to fans within the boxing world. All the while there was plenty of talk about a Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Conor McGregor fight, a subject of which De La Hoya and boxing purists were dismissive.

De La Hoya beat the UFC and White to the punch by scheduling the Alvarez-GGG fight for Sept. 16 — or so he thought — until the UFC and Mayweather Promotions slipped in first by having McGregor and Floyd fight on Aug. 26. Outraged over being outmaneuvered, De La Hoya was critical of the Mayweather-McGregor bout every step of the way.

Last week, on the day before the Mayweather-McGregor fight, De La Hoya tweeted an F-bomb at the two fighters for “disrespecting the sport of boxing.”

White did not exactly take the high road in response, tweeting back, “WTF?!? Is this guy snorting coke and drinking booze again??!?”

De La Hoya has been in rehab before for substance abuse problems, which is what led to White’s response.

During an appearance on The MMA Hour, De La Hoya addressed the shots exchanged.

“I just brush it off,” De La Hoya said. “I never attacked [White] personally, whatsoever. I was obviously very disappointed by his words. But it is what it is. I’m gonna continue defending the sport of boxing, I’m gonna continue respecting the MMA. And move on to Sept. 16.”

So De La Hoya thinks it’s OK for him to tweet an F-bomb about the competing fight, but then he gets offended when White responds with a jab? If you’re going to dish it, Oscar, you have to be prepared to take it, too.
