Arizona State ending the ‘turnover curl bar’
Miami’s “turnover chain” became such a hit last year that college football programs across the country came up with their own gimmicks this year to celebrate turnovers. Arizona State debuted a gimmick — a “turnover curl bar” — in its game against Washington last weekend that apparently will be short-lived.
Cornerback Chase Lucas got an interception against the Huskies and was seen doing curls on the sidelines afterwards with a bar.

Sun Devils head coach Herm Edwards said this week that he was surprised to see Lucas doing curls on the sideline following the interception and that he originally did not know much about it.

On Wednesday, the Arizona Republic’s Jeff Metcalfe reported that Edwards was putting an end to the curl bar.
“You’ll see it in the weight room only going forward,” Edwards said. “Short-lived. Great idea, not on my watch.”
One of the team’s wide receivers came up with the idea. ASU’s defensive coordinator said he thought it was funny, but that they don’t want any gimmicks because getting turnovers is part of the expectation.
I just loved hearing Herm talking about his reaction to seeing the bar on the sidelines. He’s still great when he gets going.
