The Georgia Bulldogs certainly look like college football’s rising power. Kirby Smart is fresh off a national championship appearance and now boasts the top recruiting class in the sport.
You might think Dan Mullen, the new coach of the rival Florida Gators, might be a little bit nervous about Georgia’s potential to establish themselves as a true national power. Quite the opposite, at least for now.
“Listen, winning one SEC Championship Game doesn’t make you a dominant program, you know what I’m saying?” Mullen said, via Thomas Goldkamp of 247 Sports. “In two of the last three years, we’ve been to the SEC Championship Game. So even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.”

Mullen’s remarks were lighthearted, but the gauntlet has clearly been thrown. The Gators still see themselves as SEC contenders, even if their on-field product fell behind Georgia last year. Of course, both will have to find a way to deal with Tua for the foreseeable future.
