Justin Fields officially named Ohio State starting QB
To the surprise of no one, Justin Fields will start at quarterback for Ohio State to open the season.
The Georgia transfer beat out ex-Kentucky graduate transfer Gunnar Hoak to win the job, as he was widely expected to. Coach Ryan Day added that, under Fields, the Ohio State offense would be run similarly to how it was under Dwayne Haskins in 2018.

Day on how offense will be different under Fields vs. Haskins: “It’s going to be very very similar. He’s a little more athletic and faster. He can run. (But) we’re not going to be drastically different.”

Though Day ran an open competition during camp, most people would probably say the job has been Fields’ to lose since he was granted immediate eligibility in February. The Buckeyes will expect to contend for the College Football Playoff once again with him under center.
