Costello did not play as a freshman in 2016 and threw for 14 touchdowns and four interceptions as a sophomore in 2017. He exploded as a junior in 2018, passing for 29 touchdowns and 3,540 yards with 11 interceptions, while being named All-Pac 12 second team.
Costello split time with redshirt sophomore Davis Mills this season while dealing with concussion and thumb issues. Costello only played in five games, throwing for six touchdowns and three interceptions.
Stanford went 4-8 this season, which was by far their worst mark ever under David Shaw.
