LSU gives gamblers bad beat by declining to score final touchdown

LSU gave several gamblers a bad beat by declining to score a final touchdown against Arkansas on Saturday night.

LSU got the ball back following an Arkansas touchdown to make the game 24-17 with under six minutes remaining. The Tigers ran the ball enough to get the Razorbacks to burn their final timeout, effectively ending the game.

But LSU running back Nick Brossette twice had an opportunity to score and declined, even going down on the 1-yard line instead of scoring on the final play:

Brossette’s decision not to score kept it a 7-point game. LSU was favored by 13.5 points in the game, so a touchdown and extra point would have allowed them to cover and help LSU backers cash their betting tickets.

Plenty of LSU fans who bet on the team will be fuming over Brossette’s decision, but it was the right play.
