Nick Saban is struggling to live down some of his “College GameDay” prognostications.
Saban spoke at a Birmingham Monday Morning QB Club meeting on Monday and took some questions from the media, including about his new job with ESPN’s flagship college football show. The former Alabama coach was asked about his favorite part of the gig — he cited sitting next to Pat McAfee as a big perk — and added that he also enjoyed being able to make “no-consequence picks” during the standard predictions segment of the program.
He did admit that he is not exactly good at said picks, and eagerly made light of how his wife Terry bested him earlier in the season.
“I might be the worst picker in the history of ball,” Saban said. “When Miss Terry completely kicks my a– on ‘GameDay’ in front of the whole world, how bad is that?”

Miss Terry was the “guest picker” on Sept. 28, when “GameDay” was in Tuscaloosa for the Georgia-Alabama game. Saban went a perfectly respectable 6-3 with his picks that day, but his wife bested him by going 7-2, fueled in part by her selection of Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes to beat UCF.
Saban has openly admitted that he has some ulterior motives with some of his picks. He probably doesn’t mind getting those wrong if they help contribute to his desired outcome.
As for his capability as a picker, college football fans have seen far worse. He has nothing to worry about.
