Texas drops big hint about Quinn Ewers’ status for Oklahoma game
Texas Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian on Monday dropped a pretty big hint about quarterback Quinn Ewers’ availability for the team’s upcoming game against Oklahoma.
After missing the last two games with an abdominal strain, Ewers appears on track to start Saturday against the Sooners. Sarkisian said the team is continuing to “monitor” Ewers, but that he “feels good” about the quarterback’s availability. Sarkisian also said Ewers would be listed as the starter if Texas had to play a game on Monday.
“I thought he looked good coming off the bye. I think if anybody benefitted from the time off, it was probably him,” Sarkisian said, via Will Backus of CBS Sports. “We’re going to monitor him daily just to kind of see how he continues to progress. But I feel good about how he was today. I feel good about him going into Saturday, but that remains to be seen.”
A report last week indicated that there was no way Ewers would miss the Oklahoma game, and that appears to be holding firm.
Arch Manning started in place of Ewers in blowout wins over Louisiana Monroe and Mississippi State. The redshirt freshman threw for 583 yards, 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions across the two games. Manning also had a rushing touchdown in Saturday’s 53-13 win over the Bulldogs. As good as Manning looked, there is no question that Texas will want Ewers back and at his best for a huge rivalry game against the Sooners.
