49ers want to sign Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch to extensions after season

Kyle Shanahan 49ers

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch each have three seasons remaining on the six-year deals they signed back in 2017, but they are expected to have even more long-term security after the team’s incredibly successful season comes to an end.

Both Shanahan and Lynch are expected to sign contract extensions with the 49ers after the season, Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported on Sunday. Those new deals will likely include hefty raises.

The Niners took a risk by hiring Shanahan and Lynch, as neither had any previous experience in his current position. With San Francisco one win away from capturing its first Super Bowl title since 1994, it’s safe to say the decisions worked out.

Niners CEO Jed York hinted recently that he is open to signing both Shanahan and Lynch to extensions, and that is hardly a surprise. With a franchise quarterback in place and a young, talented roster having been assembled by Lynch, the 49ers are positioned to succeed for years to come.
