Adrian Peterson seems very intent on forcing his way out of Minnesota. The veteran running back may have met with Vikings ownership last week to discuss his future with the team, but that hardly means all is well.
Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reports that Vikings general manager Rick Spielman tried to set up a meeting with Peterson’s agent at the NFL owners meetings next week and was denied.
That can’t be a good sign.
Even after meeting face-to-face with Vikings owners Mark and Zygi Wilf, Peterson is said to have had “concerns” about his future with the franchise. It would appear that AP feels the team did not completely support him when he was going through his child abuse case.
As for Peterson’s agent opting to not meet with Spielman, that could be a case of “we have nothing more to discuss.” Peterson clearly wants to play elsewhere, and the Vikings have said publicly that they want to keep him and have no intention of releasing him. Peterson’s father believes that is all part of a bigger plan for the team.
Peterson is still considered one of the best running backs in football, so you can’t blame the Vikings for refusing to give him up without getting something in return. And if Peterson wants to be traded, he’ll likely have to agree to a pay cut. The situation isn’t getting any easier.
