Anthony Richardson was throwing balls left-handed during the Indianapolis Colts’ minicamp workout on Thursday. Now we know why.
Both Richardson and Colts head coach Shane Steichen told reporters that the young quarterback is dealing with shoulder soreness.
“I’m good. Just a little soreness,” Richardson said after practice Thursday.
Richardson, who was the No. 4 overall pick in last year’s draft, said he could play in a game if needed.

No MRI, nothing beyond ice treatment. This was expected, he said, and it’s the only day he’s been held out since his return to the lineup this spring. pic.twitter.com/vgnLByIUsY

Richardson played in just four games last season before being shut down due to a shoulder injury. He underwent shoulder surgery, which was something that was recommended for his long-term health.
Richardson showed strong ability as a dual-threat player in his limited action as a rookie. The 6-foot-4, 244-pound quarterback passed for 577 yards and 3 touchdowns and rushed for 136 yards and 4 touchdowns over his four games. The Colts went 2-2 in his starts.
You can see a video of Richardson going through his footwork drills and throwing the ball lefty:
