The Cleveland Browns may be without the No. 1 overall pick to open the regular season.
Defensive lineman Myles Garrett left Wednesday’s practice with a right ankle injury, and the team is said to be concerned with the potential severity of the issue. While it’s not clear how bad it is, with the player yet to undergo an MRI, coach Hue Jackson indicated that Garrett’s status for Sunday was in doubt.
“We’ll see where we are as we move through the week,” Jackson said, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.
A team source said that the Browns are privately concerned that the injury could be severe enough to keep Garrett sidelined for “weeks.”
The injury came just hours after Garrett once again stated he was ready to take down Ben Roethlisberger in the season opener on Sunday. Now, it may have to wait.
