The Cleveland Browns missed out on drafting Khalil Mack in 2014, but now they may try to make amends.
Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot reported on Friday that the Browns are expected to pursue a trade for Mack, who is holding out from the Raiders.
Mack is under contract to earn nearly $14 million this season but is seeking to be paid like one of the top defensive players in the league. The Raiders have been unwilling to give him such a contract thus far. With talks between the two sides going nowhere, Mack’s holdout is expected to last into the regular season.
Teams have reportedly inquired with the Raiders to see if they would be willing to move Mack in a trade, but nothing has happened on that front so far. That could be due to the Raiders’ price, which is reported to be two first-round picks for Mack.
Giving up two first-round picks on top of paying Mack around $20 million per season would be extremely costly, but it would bring a team a difference-maker on defense.
