Melvin Gordon has informed the Los Angeles Chargers that he wants to be traded if they don’t sign him to a long-term extension before Week 1, and the team is apparently prepared to call his bluff.
Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reported on Monday that the Chargers are taking a hard stance against Gordon, and they do not appear willing to give him a long-term extension at this time.
After speaking to a handful of sources, #Chargers’ stance is dug in with Melvin Gordon. Barring a change in his camp’s expectations, an extension isn’t coming soon. His threat to potentially hold out will be put to the test. The extension straddling the next CBA isn’t helping.

Gordon is set to make $5.6 million in the final year of his rookie contract next season. Though he has battled some knee injuries, he has been one of the most productive backs in the league when healthy. Gordon totaled 1,375 yards from scrimmage last season and scored 14 touchdowns in just 12 games.
While Gordon has said he wants to remain with the Chargers despite the holdout, his agent insists he is willing to go to great lengths to get a new deal.
