Dak Prescott believes there’s a Dallas Cowboys-themed silver lining to the Philadelphia Eagles winning Super Bowl 59.
Prescott and Cowboys fans alike had to watch two of their team’s NFC East rivals, the Eagles and the Washington Commanders, square off in the NFC Championship game. Two weeks later, the Eagles were hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
On Tuesday, Prescott was asked about how far he felt the Cowboys were from competing at a similar level as the Eagles and, stunningly, the Commanders.

“I feel like we’ve competed with the Eagles and beat them for the most part when we’ve played them,” Prescott told ESPN’s Todd Archer.
“I don’t want to say, ‘Check the record,’ when the other guy is holding the trophy, right? So credit to them. They’ve earned it, and they deserve it by all means. But, yeah, [we’re] very close.”
Based on the Cowboys’ two regular season contests against the Eagles in 2024, one would struggle to understand how the two teams looked “very close.” Philadelphia blasted Dallas in their two games by a combined 62 points.
Prescott, who was sidelined with injury for both of those contests, was likely referring to their matchups from previous seasons. But there’s also a huge difference between regular season contests and playoff clashes.
The Eagles have made the Super Bowl in two of the past three seasons and have won it all twice since Prescott became the Cowboys’ QB1 in 2016. Even Washington finally made the NFC Championship this season after its 33-year drought, leaving Dallas as the only team that has not gotten past the Divisional Round since the turn of the millennium.
In the wise words of Football Aristotle, a few “very close” regular season face-offs does not a Super Bowl contender make.
