DeMarco Murray is reportedly expected to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Murray flew to Philly on Thursday morning with the expectation that he would become an Eagle. Schefter notes that the Dallas Cowboys have had numerous opportunities to re-sign Murray but have been unable to work out a deal.
Murray would reportedly consider a last-second offer from the Cowboys, but that seems unlikely. Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan spoke with members of Murray’s family who say DeMarco is signing with the Eagles.
To make matters more interesting, Ryan Mathews has reportedly not signed his contract with the Eagles but was still at the team facility on Thursday morning. It is unclear if Philly intends to sign both Mathews and Murray, though there have been indications that Kelly would like to use multiple running backs next season.
Assuming Murray does sign with the Eagles, it makes perfect sense why Kelly decided to trade LeSean McCoy. Murray runs with more of the north-south style that Kelly prefers for his offense. McCoy is a classic east-west rusher.
