Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta has reportedly been told that it is not safe for him to resume his NFL career after two hip operations.
While the final decision on Pitta’s future rests with the player himself, sources told ESPN that doctors have advised him that returning to the field would be unsafe.
As a result, John Harbaugh announced that Pitta will be placed on injured reserve.

#Ravens coach John Harbaugh announced that TE Dennis Pitta will head to IR this season. They don't feel it's safe for him to play.

Pitta first dislocated his hip in July 2013. He was able to return for the beginning of the 2014 season, but dislocated it again in September. It seems unlikely that Pitta will be returning to the field at any point. The doctors don’t feel it’s safe, the Ravens agree, and no other team is going to go against that advice. Pitta is just 30. If this is it, it’s a sad way for his career to end.
