Greg Olsen sends warning to FOX over his job ambitions

Greg Olsen is coming off two well-received years as the analyst for FOX’s No. 1 NFL broadcast team, but is being demoted for 2024 by no real fault of his own. That has prompted him to send a pretty clear message to his bosses about his ambitions.

In an appearance on the “Front Office Sports Today” podcast, Olsen made clear he wants to work for a network’s No. 1 team, having proven that he can carry the load. He also suggested that he would be willing to leave FOX to do it.

Greg Olsen just won an Emmy for his work as Fox’s top NFL analyst last year—but he’ll be bumped for Tom Brady this season.

Olsen still wants the top seat.

“My aspirations are still to be a No. 1 analyst, whether it’s at FOX or elsewhere,” Olsen said. “That will never change as long as I do this. I’m not just content to be there. I’m not just happy to have a seat. I want the top seat, and I want that wherever that opportunity allows, and I’ll never stop working for that. I feel more motivated for that now than ever.”

Olsen is still with FOX for now, and will be dropped to the No. 2 team for the 2024 season. The move was made to accommodate Tom Brady, who will join FOX this fall as their new lead analyst alongside Kevin Burkhardt. The move has been in the works for over a year, meaning Olsen has been calling games despite knowing his No. 1 role was a temporary one.

Olsen won an Emmy for his broadcasting work earlier this month, so it makes sense that he might look for lead opportunities elsewhere, though there are no clear spots right now. There has been a lot of speculation that Brady may not see his broadcasting work as a long-term commitment, so Olsen’s best shot at a top seat might be to just stick around at FOX and wait things out.
