Report: Jay Cutler had ‘real discussions’ with Jets, chose broadcasting
Jay Cutler has seemingly been forced into retirement due to a lack of interest in his services, but it sounds like the veteran quarterback may have turned down one NFL team this offseason.
With news surfacing Friday that Cutler has signed a deal to join FOX in a broadcasting role, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the 34-year-old had “real discussions” with the New York Jets but opted for a job in TV.
Before deciding to go to FOX, Jay Cutler had real discussions with Jets, and less-promising ones with Texans. Cutler opted for analyst role.

At this point in his career, Cutler would probably rather call games on television than play for a team that isn’t a playoff contender. However, there is a belief that he is not closing the door on his playing career entirely.
He's on radio later today so he will give his take on how hard this retirement is. But if a team suddenly came at him, sense is he'd play. https://t.co/7t1g6ok1Gg

It seems like a major injury would be the only thing that could open the door for Cutler to join an NFL team. And even then, the chances are slim. There have been more than a few questions raised about Cutler’s character during his career, including one recently from a former teammate. Broadcasting seems like his best bet at the moment.
