Dak Prescott has led the Dallas Cowboys to a 4-1 record while Tony Romo recovers from a back injury, leading many to wonder if the rookie has a shot at keeping the job for the rest of the season. From the sound of it, the man in charge of making that decision has not ruled it out.
In his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan Tuesday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would not commit to giving Romo the starting job back when he returns.

Jerry Jones says no one is happier than #Cowboys success with Dak Prescott than Tony Romo because it gives him better shot at Super Bowl.

Jones also reiterated what he said earlier in the season — that Prescott’s steady play gives the Cowboys the luxury of not having to rush Romo back. Romo is aiming to return in Week 8 after the bye, but what if Dallas beats the Green Bay Packers on the road and has a 5-1 record at that point?
Prescott has been more than just steady. While he isn’t lighting up the stat sheet, he has yet to throw an interception and has a passer rating of 118.7 over the past three games. The Cowboys’ only loss came against the New York Giants by one point in Week 1.
While he has ultimately been a game manager, Prescott has looked like a seasoned veteran. The comments Jones made immediately after Sunday’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals made it seem like Romo is not in danger of losing his starting job, which is consistent with the latest report we heard. Ultimately, we think Romo gets his job back. That doesn’t mean Prescott can’t make the decision as difficult as possible.
