Jerry Jones on Tony Romo playing: ‘You’ll know it when you see it’
Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys are not going to stop getting questions about the possibility of Tony Romo taking the field, whether they win or lose. If the Cowboys win, people will wonder if they should rest their starters, including Dak Prescott. If they lose, there will be talk about Prescott’s magic having run out.
Not surprisingly, Jones doesn’t want to talk about either scenario. In his weekly interview on 105.3 The Fan Tuesday, the Cowboys owner simply said “you’ll know it when you see it” when asked about the possibility of Romo getting playing time.
“I don’t have a definition for it, but you’ll know it when you see it,” Jones said, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.com. “It’s kind of like definition I heard one time of another issue trying to define a negative topic, and they said, ‘I don’t know how to say it, but it’s just something that when you see it, you know it’s there.’ We’ll see it.”
Jones seems rather superstitious, so he doesn’t want to get into detail about Prescott hitting a rookie wall or getting hurt. Though, he did concede that the questions about Romo are “legitimate.”
“I understand the question, but I don’t want to get into the scenario. It goes too far into talking about what we don’t want to talk about,” Jones said. “But given the need for [Romo], we want him ready on the spur of the moment to be a part of any effort we make … to win the ballgames.
“And, so, it would be when we all probably thought it was time for him to come in and play. I don’t want to give you those circumstances because I don’t like either one of the discussions.”
Prescott had his worst game as a pro in Sunday night’s loss to the New York Giants, throwing two interceptions after having only thrown two all season prior to that. However, the comments Jones made on Monday left no doubt that Prescott is not in danger of losing his job.
But if Prescott has a couple more games like that, things are going to get very awkward around Dallas. It makes sense that Jones and the Cowboys are hoping it doesn’t come to that.
