Josh McDaniels is still considered the favorite to be the next head coach of the Indianpolis Colts despite a new job opening with the Tennessee Titans, at least according to one report.
Sources told Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports that McDaniels is a “virtual lock” to accept the Colts job. While there have been rumblings that he may prefer to coach the Titans now that Mike Mularkey has parted ways with the team, La Canfora was told that is a long shot.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is also reporting that McDaniels prefers the Colts.
The #Colts have held strong with their pursuit of #Patriots OC Josh McDaniels and that is expected to be his choice when an offer comes, sources tell me and @TomPelissero.

McDaniels is best known for being a quarterback specialist who has worked with Tom Brady for several years, so one line of thought is that he can’t go wrong with either Andrew Luck or Marcus Mariota. There have been some questions about whether he wants to work for Jim Irsay, but it sounds like McDaniels already has his heart set on the Colts job.
There’s still a chance that Luck’s health could play a factor in which team McDaniels chooses, though the latest we have heard about the quarterback’s shoulder indicates there is nothing to worry about.
The Titans will likely get a chance to change McDaniels’ mind if and when they interview him following the AFC Championship Game.
