The Miami Dolphins have given no indication as to how long Lawrence Timmons will be suspended, but one report claims the linebacker may never play a game with the team.
According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Timmons will be suspended beyond Week 3. The collective bargaining agreement states that a player cannot be suspended for more than four games for conduct detrimental to the team, but La Canfora reports that Timmons may never play a game for the Dolphins.
Timmons went AWOL before last week’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers and was said to be dealing with a personal issue. Sources told La Canfora that the 31-year-old began acting strange before the season even began, as he visited the Pittsburgh Steelers — his former team — during the week when Miami’s season opener was postponed due to a hurricane. Timmons surprised his former teammates and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin by showing up at their facility, and he reportedly expressed a desire to return.
Here’s more:
Most players and team officials had no idea Timmons would be going to their practice, though a source said he did inform a few coaches of his desire to visit the Steelers. Mike Tomlin was aware but the front office was not, and his presence did seem odd to many given his status with the Dolphins
Sources said he told former Steelers teammates he wanted to be back in Pittsburgh and said things along of the lines of it was a mistake to have ever left. He caught former teammates, coaches and Steelers officials off guard by his presence there as an under-contract player to another team, but still no one expected what came next.
Timmons signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the Dolphins this past offseason. The team is going to attempt to recoup some of the guaranteed money on the veteran’s contract.
