Long before the Dallas Cowboys lost a playoff game on an overturned catch call because of the going to the ground rule, the Detroit Lions were hurt by the same rule.
Back in 2010, the Lions lost a Week 1 game against the Chicago Bears 19-14 after Calvin Johnson was robbed of a touchdown with 24 seconds left in the game. Johnson clearly made the catch and took a few steps backwards with the ball, but as he landed on the ground, the ball came out. The TD was taken away and the Lions lost.
Detroit, which lost to Dallas last weekend after a bad call hurt them, decided to remind the Cowboys of the similarities between their plights.

Lions defensive lineman George Johnson called the overturned decision “karma” for what happened in the wild-card round.

The wild coincidence is that Gene Steratore is the same official who made the call in both games.
