Report: Malcolm Butler bothered by Richard Sherman trade rumors
The New England Patriots seem intent on exploring ways to replace Malcolm Butler in 2017 and beyond, and the star cornerback is reportedly not happy about it.
It goes without saying that Butler was bothered by the Patriots signing Stephon Gilmore to a five-year deal with an average annual value of $13 million. That’s the type of money the restricted free agent was hoping the team would give to him, but all he’s gotten is a tender offer and rumors that the team is looking to trade him. Add in the latest chatter about the Patriots considering a trade for Richard Sherman, and you can understand why Butler feels greatly under-appreciated.
According to a report from Mike Giardi of CSSNE, Butler is frustrated with the Gilmore contract and the Sherman rumors, but he is not letting that affect his focus and preparation.
No matter where Malcolm Butler ends up – Foxboro, NO, parts unknown – told he is attacking his workouts & plans on "proving" his worth (1/2)

(2/2) Source also tells me Butler has his head in the "right place" even if he has to play under tender. Still hasn't gotten insurance tho

Actually, last one (for now). Source close to Butler says he's "not over" Gilmore deal or Sherman interest but knows he "can't change it"

The Patriots are using every last bit of leverage they have with Butler. If he signs an offer sheet with another team, the Patriots can either match it or let him walk and receive a first-round draft pick as compensation. If no team wants him, they get a Pro Bowl cornerback to pair with Gilmore at around $3.9 million for the 2017 season.
Butler is responsible for one of the greatest plays in Super Bowl history (video here), but Bill Belichick obviously doesn’t think he’s a No. 1 cornerback. Either that, or Butler is seeking an absurd amount of money that no team will be willing to pay.
