Despite the ongoing outcry over the officiating late in Sunday’s NFC Championship, the NFL appears to have no further plans to comment on the situation.
Despite frequent contact between New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton and commissioner Roger Goodell, further public statements appear unlikely, though ESPN’s Adam Schefter implied that Payton was hoping for more public responsibility after a blown call cost his team a shot at the Super Bowl.
Some context: Sean Payton reached out to NFL this week to see how it would publicly handle situation and demonstrate leadership it should; NFL did not reach out to him. NFL felt the explanation that Riveron offered Payton after game – officials missed the call – was sufficient. https://t.co/DdS5HBUDxN

In other words, the league considers the issue as settled as it can be. Some within the league very much disagree with that approach, and it’s safe to say that Goodell will be peppered with questions about this during his annual pre-Super Bowl press conference next week.
