Patrick Mahomes has no worries about long-term deal with Chiefs
It sure doesn’t sound like there will be any problems sorting out a long-term deal for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes said Friday that wants to be a Chiefs player “for a long time,” and has full faith in both his agents and the organization to figure something out.
“I want to be a Chief for a long time,” Mahomes said, via Adam Teicher of ESPN. “I want to have a contract that says that and then I can go out there and know I have that security and everything like that. I understand and trust the Chiefs’ organization and everybody in it will handle it the right way. I trust my representation that they’re going to ease my mind and let me go out there and just love the game that I’ve loved playing.
“Whenever it happens, it happens.”
Mahomes is signed through 2021 after the team picked up his fifth-year option. That means both sides have time to sort something out, but the Chiefs have made clear they’d like to do it before the 2020 season starts.
