Report: Ravens will attempt to revise Joe Flacco’s contract
The Baltimore Ravens will attempt to minimize their future cap hits by revising quarterback Joe Flacco’s contract, according to a report.
Flacco signed a six year megadeal in 2013, and the cap numbers associated with it are about to skyrocket. The hit will nearly double from $14.55 million in 2015 to $28.55 million in 2016, and then over $31 million in 2017. With that in mind, Flacco’s agent, Joe Linta, told Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk that he and the Ravens will likely meet over the weekend to discuss revising the deal.
Baltimore, Florio notes, will want to do more than a simple restructuring – they need to add years as well to spread out the cap dollars beyond 2018.
Florio also notes that Flacco has all the leverage here. There is no incentive for him to agree to a new deal if the Ravens don’t offer him a superior proposal.
For better or worse, Flacco is the Ravens’ franchise quarterback, and he’ll be there one way or another next season. And besides, no less an authority than Donald Trump himself has proclaimed Flacco to be elite. He’s certainly being paid like he is.
