It looks like Kirk Cousins will be able to explore free agency without any shenanigans from the Washington Redskins.
Earlier in the offseason, a few reports said Washington was considering franchise tagging Cousins for a third straight year and then trading him in order to recoup some of what they gave up in the Alex Smith trade. However, team VP Doug Williams told reporters on Wednesday that the team will not franchise tag Cousins.
“He’s a free agent for sure,” Williams said, via the Washington Post’s Kimberley A. Martin.
Williams also said the team has not even talked about that possibility.
The Jets and Broncos are among the teams that seemingly will be interested in Cousins once (or if) he becomes a free agent. But another NFC team may have the inside track for his services.
