Reuben Foster settled all of the charges stemming from his domestic violence case earlier this year with very little legal ramifications, but the NFL has still chosen to suspend the San Francisco 49ers star.
On Tuesday, the NFL announced that Foster will be suspended for the first two games of the 2018 season for violating the league’s conduct and substance abuse policies. The disciplinary action does not stem from the domestic violence allegations against Foster, but rather a weapons charge and misdemeanor drug offense.
#49ers LB Reuben Foster is fined and suspended without pay for the first two games of 2018 for violating the NFL’s Conduct and Substances of Abuse policies. The violations stem from a weapons offense and a misdemeanor drug offense, both of which were resolved earlier this year.

Foster reached a plea deal in his misdemeanor assault rifle possession charge, but it’s no surprise the NFL has decided to suspend him. Had the league’s internal investigation found evidence of Foster being guilty of domestic violence, he would have likely been suspended for longer.
A judge gave several reasons for dropping the domestic violence charges against Foster that stemmed from allegations his ex-girlfriend made, and the two-game suspension indicates the NFL also believed the former Alabama star was wrongly accused. We have seen players suspended for their involvement in domestic violence cases even after their charges were dropped, but that was not the case with Foster.
