Marcus Smith has not seen his NFL career take off since he was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round back in 2014, and the tough road will continue for him this offseason.
On Friday, the Seattle Seahawks announced that they have released Smith. The linebacker signed with Seattle last season after being waived by the Eagles and appeared in 14 games, recording 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He missed some practice time recently for what Pete Carroll described as personal issues.
Smith, a former star at Louisville, was considered a bit of a reach when he was the No. 26 overall pick in the draft, and Eagles fans had a memorable reaction to the selection. The 26-year-old will have a decent chance of being signed by a team in search of depth.
