The Houston Texans will likely be disappointed with Tony Romo’s decision to retire, but they now have to accept the reality that they do not have an above-average starting quarterback on their roster for Week 1. That will likely dictate the way they approach the NFL Draft later this month.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Texans are planning to move forward with Tom Savage as their starter and will probably draft a quarterback. The Denver Broncos, who were also interested in Romo, are expected to stick with Trevor Siemian and 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch.
The #Broncos are moving forward with Trevor Siemian & Paxton Lynch. #Texans moving forward with Tom Savage & likely the draft for a QB.

One Texans beat writer speculated earlier in the offseason that the team could address the QB position early in the draft whether they landed Romo or not, so the latest report makes sense.
The shocking trade that sent Brock Osweiler to the Cleveland Browns was good for Houston regardless. Clearing his horrible contract off the books was a priority with or without Romo. While there has already been speculation that Romo’s retirement could be temporary, it is unlikely he would reconsider for the Texans.
