Travis Kelce: Chiefs got too conservative in loss

Travis Kelce Chiefs

Travis Kelce was completely bummed out after the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, and he said he felt the team got too conservative in the game.

The Chiefs were up 14-0 and then 17-7 entering the fourth quarter, yet the lost 19-17 after barely doing anything offensively in the second half.

“It sucks. This one sucks,” Kelce said after the game. “That’s about all I can give you on that one. I’m going to have to look at the film.”

Kelce, who had 3 catches for 41 yards, was asked what went wrong.

“Other than play-calling, I couldn’t really tell you. I’m not blaming it on play-calling — we have to go out there and execute. But I felt like we got a little conservative. I don’t know if it was the weather or what. I don’t know. We have to look at the film and see what happened,” Kelce said in a video shared by the Kansas City Star.

The Chiefs absolutely got conservative in the game, including calling three straight run plays before handing the ball back to Tennessee for the final drive.

What happened in this one is almost the exact same scenario that allowed the Chiefs to come back and beat the Panthers a month ago. Carolina got up 17-0 in the second quarter and went quiet/conservative, and the Chiefs came back and won it with a field goal as time expired. Andy Reid must not have been thinking about that on Sunday.
