Annemiek van Vleuten injury update: fractured vertebrae, concussion
Dutch cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten unfortunately did not escape her brutal crash on Sunday in the women’s road race at the Rio Olympics without injury.
Van Vleuten was taken to the hospital after the crash and was diagnosed with a concussion and three fractured vertebrae. Luckily the fractures are described as small.
Van Vleuten stayed in intensive care on Sunday night.
Thankfully she was well enough to send a few tweets:
I am now in the hospital with some injuries and fractures, but will be fine. Most of all super disappointed after best race of my career.

Still in the hospital. Waiting for some research&hope I can leave today. Knowing that this chance is 1 in 4 years, doesn't make it easy.
