Katie Ledecky crushed the competition in 800m freestyle heat
Katie Ledecky has been the star of the women’s swimming team for the U.S. at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. Ledecky has won gold medals in the 200 and 400m freestyle, as well as the 4x200m freestyle relay. And on Thursday, she absolutely dusted the competition in her heat for the 800m freestyle.
Ledecky won her heat by a good 5-6 lengths. Her 8:12:86 time was nearly six seconds better than the next closest finisher — Jazz Carlin, whose time was 8:18:15.

Ledecky’s time set a new Olympics record. Not bad for the 19-year-old who is the world record holder in the 400, 800 and 1500 meter freestyles.
