Who can spot Ned Yost in this picture? As my dad pointed out, he had to have been in on the chugging, how else can you explain having the injury prone Ben Sheets throw a CG and over 100 pitches on Opening Day? Makes no sense, especially when the Brewers were up by so much early in the game.Â

There’s no doubt about Ben Sheets’ talent, but it’s questionable decisions like this that make me skeptical about him maintaining his health for the entire season. Opening Day pitchers are only supposed to go six innings or so. But Sheets is going all nine and throwing 104 pitches, what’s that about? Nice to see the Sheets Cy Young bandwagon has already embarked on its journey.

About on the same level as Yost is the Royals manager — Bell I think, but who really knows now-a-days. They had Gil Meche go 7 and a third innings of one-run ball, throwing 103 pitches in the process. Then again, Meche was their free agent prize, and it’s probably the only time the Royals will sell out the park, so might as well give the fans what they want.

So in case you were keeping score at home, my World Series picks combined for two runs on Opening Day, and they were playing the Brewers and Royals thank you very much. What a great start to ‘07.Â

Thanks to Detroit Basketball aficionado Matt Watson for the picture, also check out The Postmen, they’re down with the beer bong too.
