Torii Hunter says police responded to alarm at his house and pulled out guns

Torii Hunter returned home from the Freeway Series finale against the Dodgers in Los Angeles Wednesday and had a bit of an episode. The Angels outfielder says his home security alarm went off and the police showed up. That’s when matters got so uncomfortable he ended up tweeting about the incident. Below is his description of what took place:

It seemed like Hunter was hinting that the police were racially discriminating against him. He then sent some more tweets an hour later to clear things up:

Hunter definitely backpedaled after initially sharing his story. Maybe he and Darnell Dockett could get together and share their police stories.

Please, Torii—would they have done this to let’s say, your right fielder or your trainer, you think?  For reference:  Google “Dr. Henry Louis Gates” and scroll down a bit. PR aside, having cops draw down on you in your own home just for being rich, successful and black is not much  easier than what happened to Trayvon Martin in Florida, is what I’m saying. Am I wrong?

I have had my home security alarm go off a few times, when police arrive they walk the property. They then carefully, with hands on their weapons approach the front door, they are trained to be on the ready.  When my wife or I open the door and announce ourselves as owners they follow a procedure and ask for IDs.  They step into the house and my wife or I are told to stay with them while the other goes for ID.  Once that is done they let down their guard and ask what happened….  I am glad they are so careful.    They do this to all our nieghbours, irregardless of color.

yes, you are wrong.  They didn’t draw on him because he was black.  They were doing their job!  Get over it.
