Amare Stoudemire cut his hand punching a fire extinguisher in locker room

Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire committed the ultimate brain fart by cutting his hand punching a fire extinguisher in the locker room following his team’s Game 2 loss to the Heat on Monday night.

Stoudemire left the arena with his left hand bandaged and his left arm in a sling. Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports says he did not get an X-ray, and the number of stitches he required to treat the wound is not known.

Above is a look at the type of fire extinguisher inside America Airlines Arena that Amare punched, according to Brian Windhorst.

Below is the trail of blood Amare left on the locker room floor:

Amare was apologetic after the game. He sent the following tweet, presumably using only his right hand — not an easy feat!

TNT’s David Aldridge says Tyson Chandler told him Amare is likely “out” for at least a game.

Look Amare, we know you felt terribly frustrated about the team’s loss, but punching a fire extinguisher isn’t the best way to show everyone how much you care. Now that boneheaded moved will have you at less than full strength, if you can play at all the rest of the series.

Congrats, Amare. You’re now in the same conversation as fools like Kevin Brown. That’s not the kind of company you want to keep. You might also be surprised to learn that we have heard of athletes injuring their hands in weirder ways, such as this.
