Doctors worried Manny Pacquiao showing early signs of Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s

According to multiple doctors in Manny Pacquiao’s home country of the Philippines, the 34-year-old fighter may be showing signs that he is developing serious health problems. Dr. Rustico Jimenez, the president of Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines, recently said he believes he has seen early signs of Parkinson’s Disease in Pacquiao in the form of hand twitching and stuttering.

“Even though his reflexes are quick, I noticed the movement – it’s just another view, my personal view – but it seems like there are early signs,” Jimenez said, via a translation from Bad Left Hook. “There are some movements that you will notice with his hands. It’s in the hands, and not the head, where you can easily see this. It twitches a little bit. Although I haven’t seen it up close, I think I am seeing that there are some signs.”

Jimenez hasn’t actually examined Pacquiao up close, but he said he can see signs in interviews. Last month, Pac-Man was knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez and one of his coaches said he didn’t know where he was when he finally came to. Pacquiao underwent extensive brain testing after the fight. Dr. Raquel Fortun, a renowned forensics expert from the Philippines, said she is not convinced everything is right with his head.

“When the brain gets shook like that, it’s very dangerous,” Fortun said. “Since it’s not truly fixed to your skull, when your brain gets shaken, there are connections that get cut off, and you get small hemorrhages.”

Of course, these are just the opinions of two doctors who have not worked very closely with Pacquiao. That being said, we already know his wife wants him to give up boxing before he does any serious damage to himself. Hearing that her husband is showing signs of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s will not help ease Jinkee’s anxiety.

UPDATE: Pacquiao issued a statement in response.

“There is nothing to be worry about. I am 100 percent healthy and right now I’m enjoying this memorable vacation with my family in this beautiful country of Israel. I will return to the Philippines on January 14 and in early February because I want to get to the gym because I want to have a fight in April and in September I want the fifth fight with Marquez.

“The statements by the doctors show a total lack of ethics and it was irresponsible. This was just personal opinion and there were no medical tests.”

That statement clearly was not written by Pacquiao. Hopefully his staff member who crafted it will hold some serious concern for the fighter’s health and overall well-being.

He has been a role model for his native land and worldwide. Every athlete comes to an end. It is only sad to see great ones retires in this manner. With all his accomplishments and successes, he will always be remembered as one of the greatest boxer. Not only that he is a great athlete, he is also a kind generous giving person, sharing his wealth to poor people in our country. Just hope that his heath is not serious. God bless Manny Pacquia, you are a true legend.

SAD! I Hope for the best tho for  this true champion!

Everyone believes that Manny gave a lot to boxing not only to his native land but to the Boxing World itself. He revived the dying business with his love and passion to the sport. Most of his fights are exciting and fun to watch because of his desire and offensive skills. I rather order a PPV fight of Pacquiao instead of counterpuchers boxers which to me is very boring and anti-climatic. But his last 2 fights, I believe Freddy Roach & Ariza are absolutely correct. He totally abandoned the conditioning in exchanged of more sparring. Plus he’s not 100% focus because of his duties as politician, singing career, movie films, TV shows and being a Pastor of his new found Religion. He can do all that but please do it when you’re done with boxing. To me there is nothing to blame but himself. If I were him, I should QUIT boxing while it is still early. Now you can concentrate on other things that he wants to do and spent some quality time with his family. Again thank you for all the wonderful great fights.

There is nothing more to prove. If his health is affected he should quit.

Pac Man, quit while you are still healthy.  Focus on your political career, and help make the Philippines a better country.

he is a good fighter , nobody can take that away from him , but out of 3 times that he fought against juan manuel marquez previous to these last fight , he was out boxed and out classed every time but the judges and the whole entire boxing world conspired to give him once a tie and the other couple time a win when it was so obvious that marquez had won each time , but this time around marquez knew that the only way that he was going to be declare a winner was to knock him out cold cause if it came down to the judged , he will have no chance of winning , no matter what he did in the ring…………..thanks god that these time the judges can’t bail him (paquiao) out again and the best fighter prevailed finally

With all the head-pounding he had endured even in triumphs, it does not need a rocket scientist to conclude that he has had brain damage(s)  from all those accumulated traumatic head injuries. I hope he has enough gray matter left to decide that NOW is not even too early to hang his gloves, literally and figuratively speaking. I know that one fight more will mean additional millions in dollars, but it’s definitely not worth it. Manny Pacquiao, you are the  greatest Filipino boxer ever, and one of the greatest boxers world-over. You don’t have to prove anything anymore, retire in your glory. I pray for you.

What an idiotic thing to say!!!

He is one of the greatest fighters of all time. Children world wide from every corner of the planet know of him and look up to him as do many of us older people we have all the respect in the world for all he has don for his native country and for others world wide. he is a big hearted individual and we need him whole in our world. He will be no less a man or a champion in my eyes or in any one else’s if  he were to hang up the gloves today, for we all have seen and know of his greatness both in and out of the ring. You are needed here with the living and well pac man we all respect you and love you and just want you healthy and with us lighting the way for the ones who need it. God bless you for all you have done and for all you still have to do.

  • Will Goody

God bless you Pac Man, quit now brother while your still ahead and perhaps time off from fighting can reverse some of the damage unlike M. Ali who took way too much beating after his prime and became what it is we see today, a shadow of himself. God will guide you PacMan

Manny Pacman, you’re the only one who knows how your body feels. Keep fighting and hopefully win some again. God bless bra!

  • Sunti

Pacman or Manny Pacquiao: wealth or money is nothing when it comes to health’s
problems; no amount of money can heal you, if you got health problem.

You have earned your glory and honor to your country; and even helping the poor as well as serving your country.

Quit now or surrender your gloves while you can and before it’s too late!

People, all over the world, love you; what more glory or honor do you want?

  • benmamon

we love you manny if you wish to fight one more time suggest either juanma or floydmay

  • bronzebra

bitter?? why don’t you just accept the fact that manny is better than JMM?? yes. pacman was having hard time fighting JMM but it doesn’t mean that JMM is better than pacman.. filipinos want manny to fight forever so that mexican boxers will have the chance to be in the limelight and also show to the world that MEXICUTIONER is all business.. lol

  • TheRealFlash

Je je je! Unfortunately a lot if not most of Pacquiao haters are jumping to conclusions with this doctor by the name of Rustico Jimenez. NOTE: without seeing Pacquiao personally, just based upon his tv/tube observation, he is diagnosing that Pacquiao is showing an early stage of Parkinsons. He said, in a phone conversation after the radio interview, that he could be wrong about his observations… But isn’t that maybe like yelling, “Fire!” inside a crowded threater, and then when interviewed he’d say maybe in fact, I didn’t see any fire–it could be an overheated popcorn-maker smoking up the theater–after I created a stampede to all the exits of the theater?

OK, I have seen copious footage of Manny being interviewed after the Marquez loss…but he is not seen shaking during interviews, or heard stuttering during interviews. Sure, he stumbles on words sometimes, what with English being his second langguage. That doesn’t make him unlike any other ESL individuals. And that certainly is not definitive of a Parkinsons patient.

Always remember that when a rumors such as this leaks, it is ussually true. It is correct that only MP knows his health. I never spent money on some boring fights but when MP fights I definitely make the sacrifice to order PPV. It is exciting and entertaining and fun to watch with family and friends. I travel to third world countries and people don’t even know that Philippines exist. Thanks to MP people even from these places at least know that there is country called PI. I go to market or some places and they would ask my nationality (I was born in the US) then I would response that I’m Pilipino. They are not interested in knowing my name and imidiately calling me Pacquiao.

AL, look back on PM fights and it would be idiotic to say that JMM is beter than PM. If doctors’ are in fact correct, then JMM fought a disabled man. The sad part is that Pacquiao is more famous that JMM in Mexio. He defeated numbers of great Mexican boxers, he is the true Mexicutioner.

God bless Pacman, you are the greatest. I hope to meet you someday in person.

  • chorizogrande

this lazy writer is talking about what doctors that do not even work with Pacman think……than all these other idiots comment like Pacman is already dying
