Andrew Luck still not throwing at practice with shoulder injury
Indianapolis Colts fans should be at least somewhat concerned about the shoulder injury that has limited Andrew Luck in practice this week.
After Luck did not throw a pass at the media portion of practice on Wednesday, ESPN’s Mike Wells reported that the Colts are “not overly concerned” about the quarterback’s sore throwing shoulder. Wells added that it would be safe to assume Luck is playing against the Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend as long as he practices on Thursday.
But Luck didn’t practice on Thursday — at least in front of the media.
For the second straight day, Luck did not throw passes. He got some reps with handoffs, but he stood off to the side while veteran Matt Hasselbeck took passing reps with the first team. It’s possible the Colts are trying to play mind games with the Jaguars by not having Luck throw at the open portion of practice, but there is still enough worry that oddsmakers are starting to take the Colts-Jags line off the board.
Given the way Luck and the Colts have played this season (and what Indy head coach Chuck Pagano has said about Luck), you would think getting the 26-year-old as many reps as possible in practice would be a priority — not toying with an inferior team like Jacksonville. That means Luck’s injury is obviously serious enough that the Colts don’t want him throwing yet. Any issue with a quarterback’s throwing shoulder — no matter how severe — is always enough to create some anxiety.
