Ben Roethlisberger refuses to rule out playing this week
Ben Roethlisberger hopes to play this week despite the foot sprain he suffered on Sunday.
Roethlisberger was originally expected to miss “a few weeks” with the injury, but he’s trying to work well ahead of that timetable.
“The bye will come at a good time, but I’m not even going to rule myself out this week,” Roethlisberger told The Cook and Poni Show on 93.7 The Fan. “I’m going to take it one day at a time.”
“I can walk on it. I’m not running around or anything but the smart thing to do, from what doc has told me and the trainers is just to kinda keep ice on it and get the swelling out and just kind of rest it, let it heal.”
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin didn’t rule Roethlisberger out either, though he wasn’t nearly as aggressive.
Steelers Mike Tomlin on injuries: Door for Ben open but "just slightly ajar.'' Preparing to play with Landry Jones at QB Sunday

It still seems extremely unlikely that Roethlisberger will play on Sunday. He’s obviously going to try, but given Tomlin’s quote and the original diagnosis, Landry Jones is probably the safe bet to go against Cleveland.
