Plaxico Burress Says the Jets Offense Will Eventually ‘Go Through the Roof’

All it took was a win over the winless Dolphins for the Jets to get their confidence back.  Order has been restored in New York as the mouths of the 3-3 Gang Green are once again moving at a rapid pace.  Just over a week ago, reports surfaced that the Jets receivers were unhappy with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer’s system.  Almost immediately after, Derrick Mason was traded to the Texans.

Apparently all is well now with Mark Sanchez and company.  While one could argue the Jets offense has been so bad that they would be a 1-5 team without the high-quality play of their defense, Plaxico Burress envisions great strides being taken in the near future.

“The more we get comfortable, we start playing pitch and catch and I’m doing my thing out there, the offense is going to go through the roof,” Burress said on Wednesday according to The Star-Ledger. “It’s only a matter of time.”

Last we heard, Plaxico doing his thing meant dropping passes.  Whether it is the lack of aggressive play calling or the inability of New York’s passing game to execute, Mark Sanchez has not appeared to make significant strides in his third NFL season.  Dropped passes have not made things any easier.

“Me and my quarterback, we have some work to do,” Burress continued. “And being a competitor, you have to love the opportunity to go out and work hard and get better. . . . We’re not where we want to be as far as passing the football. There’s so much room for improvement, this offense can be so much better.”

There certainly is room for improvement, and if it is not made the Jets are going to fall short of the postseason.  Their defense does not look quite as dominant as it has been the past two seasons which means their offense needs to step up.  Rex Ryan is not going to be handed Norv Turner’s roster any time soon, so he had better figure out a way to win more games with his own.
