Golf Course Offers Cemetary Dedicated Exclusively to Golfers

As someone who loves to frustrate myself and continue playing a sport I will never be able to master, there are few things I enjoy more than a nice round of golf. However, that is the living Del. The deceased Del doesn’t want to subject himself to being around that kind of frustration for eternity. Needless to say I will not be picking out a plot at Sunset Hills Memorial Golf Park any time soon.

According to KOMO News in Washington, a cemetery in Bellevue, Wash. has devoted a section exclusively to die-hard golfers who want to be as close to golf as possible when they reach their final resting place.  At Sunset Hills, golfers can choose to be buried next to the green, under the green, next to a water hazard, and even have their cremated ashes scattered in a sand trap.  Creepy enough for you?

“So for golfers who spend a lot of time in the bunker — they’re free to spend eternity in the bunker at Sunset Hills,” Arnes Swanson, the brains behind the operation, explained.

I have heard of golf courses next to cemeteries, but never have I seen the two ideas combined.  Swanson said a family that he saw scattering the ashes of a loved one along one of the fairways inspired the idea.  Members of the PGA and LPGA have been invited to attend the official dedication of the cemetery next Tuesday.  Personally, this would be a little too “out there” for me to be a part of.

Golf clap to Off the Bench for sharing the strange story.
