And on this day, the site formerly known as CBS SportsLine* shall now be known to the free speaking sports world as CBS Sports. From the press release:

“With the singular tie to the CBS Sports brand, we now have the ability to connect with more fans than ever, bringing loyal users of the SportsLine service together with new consumers, whether they are in front of a television, on their computer or on the go with their mobile device,” said Jason Kint, Senior Vice President and General Manager of CBSSports.com. “This extension across all platforms will give fans the ability to meet and interact with one another to a greater degree than ever before.”

Whatever bro. You know that thousands of sports fans five years from now will still be typing in sportsline.com. And considering the domain still contains the word “sportsline,” it might be a good idea to get that redirecting to CBSSports.com or something. So what does this mean to all of us? Not much, other than the fact that CBS Sports is making an effort to stamp a brand across multiple platforms — probably a very wise idea in order to compete with ESPN and FOX who have similar unilateral presences.

Wonder how long before Jason Whitlock pops up on CBS Sports, sportsline, whatever the heck its name is now.
