Angels offer update on Mike Trout’s groin injury

Mike Trout

Mike Trout suffered a groin injury during Tuesday night’s win over the Milwaukee Brewers and said he was expecting to return to the lineup either Friday or Saturday, but the Los Angeles Angels are playing it safe with their $430 million man.

On Friday, the Angels said Trout has shown a reduced amount of swelling in his groin and is improving by the day. However, he will be held out until at least Sunday, when doctors will reevaluate him.

This sounds like a situation where Trout feels well enough to play, but the Angels see no reason to rush him back this early in the season. While he’s off to an incredible start with a .406 average, five homers and an eye-popping .592 OBP, groin injuries can linger. The Angels don’t want that happening, so they’re likely trying to be sure Trout is 100 percent healthy before he takes the field again.
